We will be adding many new Nepenthes species for sale and Nepenthes hybrids from Borneo Exotics and Exotica Plants this Saturday. More importantly we will be making available 5 new Nepenthes species for sale with this inventory update:
1. Nepenthes sp. nov. Papua New Guinea
When photos first surfaced of this NEW species from famed wildlife photographer Ch’ien Lee, we could hardly contain ourselves. We are now proud to offer, for the first time in history, this amazing and colorful new species from our lab. The illustration above was done by Michael Kevin Smith based on few photos available of this plant in the wild, but attempts to show the complexity and coloration of this yet to be described species. An example lower pitcher on the left and an upper pitcher on the right.
This species is found on Mount Doorman’s Top in the Papua Province of New Guinea. Above you will find some photos of one of our bigger seed grown plants. Small plants of our clone #2 will be offered on Saturday.
2. Nepenthes argentii
A small and delicate species, Nepenthes argentii has been a difficult Philippine species for collectors to source. Borneo Exotics and Wistuba offered this species years ago, but sources for both clones have been few and far between. Native Exotics is excited to offer a series of three clones of Nepenthes argentii that will begin to go on sale this Saturday with the inventory update. The photo above shows a “mature” Nepenthes argentii from our collection.
3. Nepenthes monticola
Another seemingly mysterious plant, Nepenthes monticola grows in upper montane vegetation at altitudes between 1400 to 2620 meters in the west central highlands of the Papua Province of New Guinea. It was previously confused with Nepenthes lamii but field work has shown this species to be quite distinctive and always found below 3000 meters in mossy forests. Native Exotics is offering several new clones to cultivation available this Saturday. There will be clone 2 and 4 as well as a selection of 26 random clones. The photo above is clone #4.
4. Nepenthes alba
This is a difficult to find species in cultivation, we have produced this clone from our lab. This species is only found in Peninsular Malaysia. Its name refers to the white upper pitchers that are typical of this species. Nepenthes alba is found in nature between 1600 and 2187 meters and therefore falls into the category of highland Nepenthes. We have found that this beautiful species does well with nights typically around 55-60 degrees Fahrenheit, and days in the upper 70’s with the occasional brief dip into the low 80’s as acceptable. The photo above is one of a limited few that will be offered on Saturday.
5. Nepenthes sibuyanensis
This is a lovely squat pitchered species found only on the island of Sibuyan located in the Philippines. There seems to be quite a fair amount of genetic variation in this species which makes it exciting for us to be able to offer a fair number of new clones into cultivation. We have a number of random clones from out lab to offer you. At our nursery we have found this species to grow quite well as a cool to warm intermediate plant. This basically means that it grows under night temperatures around 60-65 degrees Fahrenheit and days in the upper 70’s to mid 80’s with out issue. It appreciates a fair amount of humidity to pitcher well, and really responds to either natural light or fairly strong exposure to LED’s or T8 light fixtures in the cool 6500K wavelength. This species is found at elevations between 1250 and 1500 meters in the wild. The plant above is an example of what we will offer this Saturday.
The inventory update this Saturday will include the 5 new Nepenthes offerings described above along with some nice BE material including Nepenthes jamban, Nepenthes ovata, Nepenthes mirabilis var. globosa x hamata, Nepenthes jacqulineae, and more. We will also be posting some EP hybrids including; Nepenthes (lowii x veitchii) – red x boschiana, Nepenthes chaniana x (lowii x merrilliana), Nepenthes (lowii x boschiana) x [(lowii x veitchii) x sibuyanensis x xtrusmadiensis)], and more.

We will be posting some beautiful new hybrids including: Nepenthes platychila x vogelli, Nepenthes platychila x lowii, Nepenthes spathulata x lowii, Nepenthes spectabilis x veitchii ‘candy stripe’, and Nepenthes lowii x spectabilis.
For the species lover we will be posting Nepenthes bongso, Nepenthes lowii, Nepenthes burkei, Nepenthes lingulata, Nepenthes veitchii ‘Gunung Murud x veitchii ‘candy stripe’, and Nepenthes jacquelineae, all plants from seed.
This is only a handful of the plants that will be available from CK in the coming months. Check out the photo above of how the plants are looking today.
The Exotics Plants update will be pushed to the end of September.
Geoff and Andrea from EP have had to push their catalog update due to some personal circumstances and wanted us to let everyone know they are sorry for the inconvenience. All is well, they will launch the update at the end of September.
There will be two pre-order/phases for this late September Exotica update:
- The first will be an update that occurs on the Native Exotics website that will contain exclusive EP plants posted for pre-order before Exotica updates their website. Inventory is guaranteed to Native Exotics and will posted to NativeExoticsOnline.com a week before EP updates their website.
- The second update will occur on the Exotica’s website and will be rare and one-off plants. We will facilitate this order too and have a new section in the my account section of the website where this inventory can be requested once it is posted to EP a the end of September.
Both of these pre-order/phases will come to Native Exotics as a single order from EP and immediately forwarded to your home.
